History

2024

auto-scan celebrated 25 years of supporting manufacturers by identifying, resolving, and preventing defects and issues in their production processes.

The Group also signed the Armed Forces Covenant, furthering our commitment to supporting veterans, reservists, and members of the armed forces community. Assessments by both CDP and EcoVadis recognised our efforts and increasing contributions towards a more sustainable future for our planet and the environment.

2023

Our commitment to compliance and upholding information security was strengthened further by becoming one of the first companies in the UK to achieve accreditation to the very latest information security standard – ISO27001: 2022.

2022

Building on a successful post-pandemic recovery we continued our expansion and diversification into non-automotive sectors including medical, retail, domestic and marine.

2021

e-vo broadened the Group’s conversions and prototype scope with the completion of two distinctly different projects. The conversion of all terrain trucks into fully modular Military Vehicles demonstrated further diversification into the military and defence sector. Our first fully electric Commercial vehicle build took place within the facility with the completion of 25 Prototype Development VOLTA ZERO trucks.

2020

The global Covid pandemic brought many challenges and tragedies that changed the world and lives forever. Like all businesses we needed to react, but unlike all businesses we chose the path of protecting and retaining our entire team and trusted colleagues, safe in the knowledge that when recovery came, we would be there and ready to support our customers once again.

2019

Our 15-year nomination with a luxury brand automotive OEM took a further step forward with the successful nomination to replace an existing but failing support partner on specific pre-series containment and concern management.

The significant investment and commitment to introduce our ‘Benchmark’ live Data Capture, Reporting and 8D Management system (EOS) strongly supported this nomination.

2018

Continued expansion and the request from customers to have the ability to divert vehicles and components for off-site rework led to significant investment and the creation of our 40,000 sq.ft Group head office and flexible vehicle rework facility: e-vo

2015

e-ppl and auto-scan increased the scope of services at all customer sites to enhance the offering to our customers. Further investments in technologies and data systems helped to secure a new Global contract and diversification into the off-highway equipment sector.

This Global scope also required operations to be established in India, resulting in the formation of auto-scan India Pvt Ltd.

2014

To enable us to continue supporting our ever-increasing customer base, several key appointments were made within the business in 2013 / 14. This ensured we maintained full operational control of all existing activities and prepared us for the next planned phase of growth.

2013

To complement our ISO 9001 Quality Management System, we also successfully achieved accreditation to ISO 14001, thereby implementing a fully integrated Quality and Environmental Management System.

Following the successful five-year single source partnership with a premium brand OEM, we were rewarded with a further five-year extension to this contract in June 2013.

2012

Due to a proven track record and consistent delivery of highly skilled projects, e-ppl successfully secured the contract to provide a fully managed launch support service on new models to all three UK facilities of a premium-luxury automotive OEM.

2011

A further three-year contract extension with our first-ever OEM demonstrated our ability to truly develop long term partnerships and deliver sustained levels of performance and support.

The strategic alignment of auto-scan with e-ppl in June 2011 created a unique service offering within our service provider sector, positioning us for the future and the requirements of all OEM’s and suppliers.

2010

2009 / 10 was a challenging period for many in the automotive industry and beyond due to the global recession. Our ability to react quickly to changing business needs and our strong business planning and organisation ensured we adapted to these unprecedented times and secured the long-term future of the business.

2008

Following our 2005 nomination as a dual source partner to a premium brand OEM, three years later saw the decision to reduce onsite support to a single service provider. This resulted in our successful nomination as the sole service provider for onsite containment and quality engineering services.

We also invested in the long-term growth of the northeast business, establishing our office and team there which continues to support both automotive and non-automotive manufacturers and suppliers.

2005

The decision by one of our premium brand OEM customers to streamline onsite Quality Service support led to our successful nomination as a dual source contracted partner. This strategy gave the supply base an equal pricing structure and the ability to nominate their chosen partner solely on levels of service, something that resulted in a majority share of work being awarded to auto-scan.

2004

Through 2003 and 2004, our reputation within the supply base led to increasing requests to provide onsite support at new OEM locations, and operational teams were established at three further premium and luxury brand manufacturers. This would later see us developing longstanding relationships and contract nominations with these OEMs.

2003

Due to the continued growth of auto-scan and increasing levels of work overseas supporting our growing customer base, auto-scan invested heavily in the back-office functions, IT systems and quality systems, successfully upgrading our accreditation to ISO9001: 2001.

2002

Following three years of sustained growth and development, the ethics, professionalism and hard work of the auto-scan team was recognised with Les Brown being awarded the regional Entrepreneur of the year 2002.

The on-going growth of the business resulted in the need to secure new operating premises for further expansion of the management and administrational support teams.

2001

A further milestone for the business came in the form of new resident support at a 2nd automotive OEM, which helped develop our already expanding support within the automotive manufacturing supply base.

As a quality service provider, it was essential to implement and maintain our own robust quality management systems and following investment in our people, time and resource, achieved accreditation to ISO9001:1994

2000

This year marked a significant event in the history of the business when auto-scan successfully secured a first resident support assignment with an automotive OEM, being asked to provide onsite containment support at the OEM’s own manufacturing facility.

During this same year, an increasing number of projects were undertaken at several first tier supplier facilities and our reputation for quality of service continued to spread within the industry.

1999

auto-scan was founded in 1999 by Les Brown and John Birch, and it was during this time that the first auto-scan office was established in Telford. This enabled the business to offer a professional service and structured support to a rapidly expanding operational team.
