The IMI Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance is designed for technicians who carry out routine maintenance activities on electric and hybrid vehicles but do not work live on high-voltage systems. This one-day course provides the knowledge and skills needed to perform routine servicing safely, including activities near (but not on) high-voltage components.

Level 2 training supports compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, specifically:
Regulation 16 (Persons to be competent): Technicians must be competent for the electrical work they undertake. Level 2 provides competence for routine maintenance activities around de-energised EV systems.
Regulation 13 (Precautions for work on equipment made dead): When working on equipment that has been made dead, appropriate precautions must be taken. Level 2 covers these precautions for routine maintenance work.
This qualification ensures technicians understand the limits of their competence – they can work around high-voltage systems safely but are not authorised to work live on those systems.
