e-ppl launches IMI-approved EV technician training
e-ppl has officially launched its IMI-approved electric vehicle (EV) technician training programme from its dedicated e-vo facility in Coventry, UK.
Approved by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the new service is designed to support the growing demand for skilled EV professionals across the UK, in response to the national skills gap. A shortfall of 35,700 EV technicians is predicted by 2030 without urgent investment in retraining.
Located at the company’s prototype and low-volume vehicle build centre, e-vo, the new training space features a dedicated classroom, EV response area, live working zones, and high-voltage tooling – providing a controlled environment for safe, hands-on learning.
The courses cover various levels of EV safety and technical training, from basic awareness to live working, and have been specifically developed to align with the real-world needs of manufacturers and supply chain businesses.
The new training centre is expected to support upskilling, reskilling, and entry-level pathways into EV technician roles, with flexible options for both employers and individuals.
e-ppl provides national support to the automotive, defence, commercial, and specialist vehicle sectors, including EV prototype builds, high-voltage battery work, and rework support. The company’s dedicated vehicle build arm, e-vo, has supported a range of low-volume and prototype programmes, including fully electric vehicles, service vehicle conversions, and emerging mobility solutions.
